"These pendants and mobiles are my attempt to capture the moments of awe that we all experience when we look at the natural world: when we see a flock of geese flying in formation, when we see swallows wheeling around in a barn, when we watch a full moon rising, when we look up at the glittering constellations.What if we expand our imagination and let those awe-inspiring geese and swallows break the bonds of gravity and atmosphere and fly among the planets and stars? Evolution calculated how to get creatures up and walking and flying, why not sailing through the galaxy exploring stars, planets and moons? Fanciful, yes, but I hope that viewers of my unlikely juxtapositions of these pendants and mobiles will have an experience something akin to the awe one feels when seeing the inspirational beauty in nature. These inspirational moments are the root of our capacity to care about nature itself, and they expand our capacity to see more. And through that caring, we encourage the preservation of these natural wonders for everyone."
George Reynolds was born in Ann Arbor Michigan and moved to the Connecticut River Valley in 1970 to attend Wesleyan University. He has been a mathematician and computer scientist, teaching at Union College and the University of Massachusetts Amherst and working in IT at various Western Mass companies. His interests are music (old-time fiddle and classical piano), sculpture and he has been interested in traditional methods of marbling paper and fabric, currently he is making mobiles.
