For Vermont artist William Hays, the idea of positive and negative is everything but black and white. He takes the simplicity of linoleum block printing to new levels with his beautiful and complex prints. Hays’ prints unfold, color by color into a layered mosaic of carved shapes, carefully fitted into a composition that conjures a sense of mood and place dear to the heart of the artist.
Hays’ prints transcend the limitations of a knife and a block of linoleum. His careful and intricate techniques of carving are brilliantly reflected in the rich textures and colors of these intimate prints. Using traditional and innovative techniques of reduction printing, Hays’ linocuts stand apart in execution and design.
Each archival print in the edition is an original work of art. There are slight variations from one print to the next. Each is hand printed on 100% rag paper using time-tested, oil-based inks that are glorious and rich in color. Each print is created in a stricktly limimited edition. Once the last print in an edition is sold, they are no longer available.
