Ariah Boyle paints what he sees right here in West County. He works in oils with a spontaneity that brings presence to his subject, and draws his viewer right into the painting. In his Instagram feed, Ariah described the process of creating this painting: "As most everyone who paints outside knows, you almost need a runway behind you to walk back and look at your painting from a distance. My runway was a frozen river. As I was in the throes of painting, I didn't realize it was melting. Nearing the end of the painting, as I stepped back and got poked by the same branch for the 46th time, my left leg went straight through the ice into the river. There's always a memorable experience tied up with each work. That's one of the things I love..."
